Regulation in Alberta and Canada
Regulation of the practice and profession of systemic therapy (also referred to as family therapy, relational therapy, marriage and family therapy, couple and family therapy, etc.) in Alberta is a main focus of the Alberta AMFT.
Currently, Alberta does not have licensure for MFTs. Quebec and Ontario are the two provinces in Canada with regulation of this profession. Practitioners practice unregulated in Alberta, or are regulated through another licensing body such as Nursing, Psychology, or Social Work.
There are two major advances happening in Alberta for regulation of our profession to stay tuned for updates as we have them! If you are a member of the public and you have concerns about a member, please click here.
